Today the 8th Grade Class received their diplomas and said goodbye, thus capping a very successful school school year. The 8th graders did a wonderful job managing their projects and homework especially 4th quarter when they worked remotely. Today took everything in stride and celebrated with proud parents, siblings, and friends. We wish them the very best in high school and college!
St. Therese Catholic families continue to adapt and support our new "distance learning" format in response to the pandemic. THANK YOU to our families for continuing to be so PATIENT, FAITHFUL, and for STICKING TOGETHER during all the unexpected worldwide changes that have occurred. Without your support, a pathway forward would not be possible. Our I-Beam is also now complete! Please CLICK the TITLE to see all the photos!
Today students of all grades signed the I-beam that will be placed in the new cafeteria and parents picked up homework packets for grades Pre-K through 3rd! 4th-8th grades are online via Google Classroom.
Today teachers from grades Pre-K to 3rd were at St. Therese creating At-Home "Distance Learning" Packets for the students. 4th-8th grades are online! PACKET PICKUP is tomorrow, WED from 3-6pm at the school. Ms. Illerbrun is asking ALL STUDENTS (grades Pre-K through 8th grade) to PLEASE COME TO THE SCHOOL to SIGN THE I-BEAM that will be permanently installed in the cafeteria. Today Ms. Medina's 3rd grade class performed as living "wax museum" historical characters! The students had to learn about their historical person and then recite their life's history when visitors pressed the "Push" button on the table. Some of the costumes were very detailed and elaborate! All classes came to see the Wax Museum come to life today!
St. Therese now hosts a weekly COMPUTER CLUB! Currently open to 4th and 5th grades, the students learn to code by creating games in "Scratch!" Please see the photo album for more pics!
This semester, the 4th and 5th grade students have been avidly learning to program their mBot robots! Many of the programming skills they learned in "Scratch" last semester have helped them with robots this semester. They've learned how to make the mBot go forward, backward, turn, make sounds, and flash its lights in different colors. They've also learned about "forever" loops and will soon be learning "if / then" statements. Recently, they were challenged to program their robot to trace the perimeter of a triangle!
Thanks to our KIND DONORS, our school now has NEW CHROMEBOOKS this semester! Thanks to your kind support, we were able to purchase 30 new Chromebook laptops. The students have already been putting them to good use! Please see the photo album to see what 1st Grade has been up to with the new technology!
Today Theron (7th) and Isaiah & Elizah (both 5th) represented St. Therese at the ABQ Private / Parochial District Spelling Bee! We're very proud of our students who did their best to represent our school!
As most of you know, during the Winter Break our wonderful bronze statue was vandalized. Formerly a depiction of a young boy, a young girl, and a puppy, the young girl portion was removed by the vandals. Art and beauty are in the eye of the beholder. The "Venus de Milo" statue was made more beautiful by fate when her arms were lost over time. So even though a bronze version of a child was lost to our statue, we realize art is fluid and we can choose to make new living art out of the old. What's most important to us is our living children of course. So our young students helped us create some new photos we hope you enjoy as they "replace" what was lost with their joyful hearts and smiles.
